Ice machine not making ice

If your bin is empty by lunch service, the cause is almost always water, scale, or a failed sensor — and almost always fixable in one visit.

01 / 04Likely causes

What is usually
behind it.

The shortlist of root causes we find on this call. The truck is stocked for most of these.

  1. 01Water inlet valve failed or clogged
  2. 02Scaled evaporator plate (no harvest)
  3. 03Bin thermostat or float switch stuck
  4. 04Condenser coil clogged with dust
  5. 05Water filter past replacement interval
  6. 06Low refrigerant charge
02 / 04Right now

Do this while you wait.

Steps that can save product, prevent damage, and shorten the repair once we are on site.

Do this
  • Confirm the water supply is on at the shutoff
  • Check the bin level switch is not jammed by ice
  • Note any flashing diagnostic codes on the controller
Do not do this
  • Do not chip ice off the evaporator plate with a tool — it ruins the coating
  • Do not pour hot water on the unit to defrost it
